The Faroese government has established a new export council to promote trade and market access for Faroese goods and services internationally.

An export council for the Faroe Islands has been on the agenda for some time, with the Faroese Employers association having called for it for some years as well as being one of the main goals of the current Faroese government coalition, reflecting a wish to have something similar to what neighboring countries have as parts of their foreign policy objectives.

New markets on the horizon

”In their striving to grow and to strenghten their business, many companies are looking for new markets and collaborations abroad. The export council will serve as the strong connection between businessess and the political administration. The council will among others things produce advisory reports about which markets or business branches should be center stage” Faroese prime minister Kaj Leo Johannesen is quoted as stating by the office of the prime minister.

Seven members will be appointed by the prime ministers to steer the council for a course of two years. And the ministers of industry, fishery and culture will recommend a women and a man each.
